In the hot south Side in Chicago apartment, many city children were enjoying their summer, while Lattie was constantly tormented by his mother and her boyfriend. They spent the summer beating the boy with their fists, burning him with cigarettes and iron, dunking his legs in boiling water, starving and dehydrating him, pricking him with sewing needles, wrapping a clothing line around his ankles and hanging him upside down, to muffle his crying he was forced to have a rag in his mouth-Police found the body
